Product Knowledge & Care Instructions

At Woodukoo, each piece of furniture is crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail, resulting in unique items that will provide enjoyment for years to come. Every furniture item is finished by hand and crafted using traditional methods to ensure durability and long-lasting quality. Combined with natural elements such as knots, grain, and color variations, this ensures that each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. With proper care, these well-crafted pieces will offer many years of satisfaction. To extend the lifespan of the furniture you purchase from Woodukoo, we recommend the following:

CLEANING

  • To preserve the look of your furniture, we suggest regular dusting with a soft cloth. Occasionally, you may wipe it down with a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent solution, then dry it with a lint-free cloth.
  • You can also use a beeswax furniture polish from a trusted supplier on wooden surfaces.
  • Avoid using wooden polishes containing silicone repeatedly, as they can cause a buildup of a silicone layer, which may alter the appearance of the furniture. Clean glass or mirrored panels with a non-solvent-based glass cleaner and a soft cloth, taking care to avoid contact with wooden or painted sections.
  • Upholstered seats should be regularly maintained by gently brushing or vacuuming them. Periodic cleaning is necessary to maintain their appearance and prevent early fading and wear. Professional dry cleaning services can also be used for this purpose.
  • Spills should be promptly blotted with a dry, white cloth. If the fabric becomes stained, we recommend contacting a dry cleaner, who is well-equipped to handle such situations.

CARE

  • We suggest protecting delicate flooring from potential marks caused by furniture legs or feet. Dropping furniture on its corners or legs can result in damage to the frame or legs.
  • Leaning back on two legs of a chair can weaken the joints. Be cautious to prevent sharp objects like toys, buckles, or heels from coming into contact with your furniture.
  • Avoid exposing your furniture to chemicals such as hair and makeup products, perfume, etc., as these may affect the finish.
  • If your furniture becomes stained, scratched, chipped, or otherwise damaged, we recommend seeking professional assistance for restoration.
  • Adhering to these guidelines will help maintain the performance of your product. Woodukoo is not responsible for defects caused by improper use of your product.

WOOD EXPANSION AND MOVEMENT
  • Wood naturally undergoes expansion and contraction due to seasonal variations in temperature and humidity. This can occasionally make moving parts a bit more difficult to operate. For drawers, applying a small amount of candle wax to the runners attached to the drawer can help smooth their movement. Woodukoo advises against placing products in environments with extremely high or low temperatures, or in areas that are frequently damp, as these conditions may lead to issues with the furniture

LEVELING, ASSEMBLY, AND MOVING FURNITURE
  • It’s crucial to place your furniture on a flat surface to ensure that doors hang properly and open smoothly.
  • Furniture with doors may have adjustable hinges or wedges to align the doors if the floor is uneven.
  • If doors do not function smoothly or if the furniture is relocated, re-check the leveling. Adjust the doors or use appropriate packing material to level the corners as needed.
  • When moving furniture, handle it with care. We recommend lifting items with two people, as dragging them across the floor can damage the joints.
  • Large pieces assembled on-site from multiple sections should be disassembled before being moved to a new location. For self-assembly items, assemble them at the final location and lift them carefully into place.

SUNLIGHT AND HEAT
  • Keep your furniture away from excessive heat sources, such as radiators, to prevent cracking. We recommend maintaining a minimum clearance of 30 cm from heat sources. Direct exposure to sunlight can alter the color of natural wood, even if it is painted or lacquered; this effect is more noticeable if the furniture is positioned near a window.
  • Avoid leaving objects like vases or ornaments in one spot on a piece of furniture in direct sunlight, as this may cause a mark when they are moved. These marks should become less visible over time. Always use table mats and coasters to protect wooden or painted surfaces from hot dishes.
  • Prolonged use of hot electronic devices, such as laptops, on your furniture can also lead to scorching.

CHARACTERISTICS OF NATURAL WOOD

Wood is a stunning natural material with distinctive qualities that should be appreciated rather than seen as imperfections:

  • Wood Patterns and Coloration: Every piece of wood will have a unique grain pattern. Variations in color, shading, and grain are common between different pieces and even within the same piece. These differences are a natural characteristic of genuine wood furniture.
  • Knots: Knots are an inherent feature of authentic wood furniture. They do not impact the functionality of the furniture and contribute to its unique charm and character.
  • Medullary Rays: These markings appear when wood is cut across the grain, showcasing features such as growth rings and flecks that add to the wood’s visual interest.

FABRIC UPHOLSTERY

To help prolong the life of your upholstery fabric or leather please consider the following:

  • With most upholstery, periodic cleaning of the entire piece is essential to maintain appearance and prevent premature fading and wear.
  • Clean coordinated items at the same time, as some colour loss may occur.
  • Always allow for 3% shrinkage upon the first wash or dry clean.
  • To remove everyday household dust and dirt, clean regularly by gently vacuuming fabric.
  • Remove all spills immediately. Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry, white cloth, work towards the center of the spill. Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners as this may damage the furniture. Should the piece become stained or suffer other damage we recommend professional advice is sought.
  • Apply specialist cleaning care products only as directed on the container and try first on a hidden area of your sofa.
  • To remove atmospheric dust and dirt that could cause premature wear, clean regularly with a soft cloth or brush.
  • Show wood should be kept clean with a lightly damp cloth rinsed in warm water, never use detergents

CARE FOR FILLED PADS
  • Fiber pads must be plumped daily after use to maintain the soft comfortable feel.
  • To correctly maintain, at least weekly, turn the pad onto one of its outside edges and beat the opposite side vigorously inwards with the flat of your hand, repeat for each side, then shake and replace.
  • Pads must be removed from their covers to carry out maintenance on a regular basis.
  • Odor is completely normal on brand-new pillows.  Allow new pillows to air out for several days before using them if the odor bothers you. Most of the odor dissipates on its own over time.

SUNLIGHT AND HEAT
  • All upholstery and leather fabrics can be affected by light, so we recommend it is positioned away from direct sunlight and heat to protect it from fading and premature wear.
  • At least a 30cm clearance from heat sources such as radiators is advised to prevent colour change or permanent marks occurring.
  • You should not place hot items such as cups, laptops or hot water bottles on leather as this may mark the leather, causing it to darken.
  • We do not recommend locating products in excessively high or low temperatures, or where the environment is often damp as this may cause product issues.

CARE
  • Take care to prevent sharp objects such as toys, buckles and heels from coming into contact with your furniture as they may cause damage. We recommend you discourage domestic pets from climbing on or clawing upholstery.
  • Avoid air pollution such as cigarette smoke and cooking fumes, which can cause leather to fade or change colour.
  • Take care to avoid hair preparations and other cosmetics coming into contact with the fabric or leather as this is likely to damage the surface.
